Our Favorite Pike Places

Location:
Lynn Lake Manitoba - Manitoba
Comments: Golden Eagle Lodge on Sickle lake has a board for the number of Trophy Pike this year to date in camp. When I looked at the board it was 127 trophy pike. There were only 60 guests this year so far!! That is better than 2 per guest! The largest pike this year was 46.5 inches!! I think it is the best and the numbers don't lie!!

Location:
Heritage Lake #2 - -----
Comments: This location is prime for fishing big northern Pike. This is a remote access lake which requires a portage of 1Km . Trail is at the north east end of Heritage lake . Major requirements for this lake is a smaller craft preferably canoe since the trail is only one person width. The location of this prime area is 11km north of candle lake, Docking stations are remote and services NIL. There are no marker signs to which you are going but if you get there, the lake hardly sees anyone. Pike on a regular basis caught in 2002 season Aug were 17lbs ,21lbs, and a monster which got away approx 27 lbs which we tried to land but was too heavy for the canoe. This was an excursion of 1 day. Both 17 and 21 pounds were released. Bear frequent the area so be aware. Also there is no facilities to speak of so come prepared for just about anything.

Location:
Dr. Mainprize Park / Rafferty Resevoir - Saskatchewan
Comments: Fishing from shore or in a boat right at the causeway (ask how to get there at the park gates or at Dock's store) the Pike are huge! We have caught Monster Pike here up to 24 lbs, and I know there are bigger ones in there, there has to be! On a usual summer or fall day, we have caught at least one that was between 14 and 24 lbs, and one day last summer we caught a total of four, all over 18 lbs. Some days I have caught them on a deep diver Rappala, but more often a smelt on a large treble hood with a bobber are guaranteed to work, although it may take an hour of drinking whiskey before you actually catch one. My good friend Chris Messer even caught one while fishing for Walleye using a pickerel rig! 17lbs on a pickerel rig, I couldn't believe it. There are lots of the Monster Pike there most of the year round, and they are hungry. It is not uncommon to have one grab on to a little Walleye while reeling it in to shore. Those ones always get away, but they hold on for quite a while and put up one hell of a fight before the finally get tired and let go!

Location:
Huard Lake - Saskatchewan
Comments: Huard Lake is found near Chitek Lake, about 15 km of dusty roads away. The conditions were perfect for early season pike. The main part of the lake was still very cold. The ice was only off for a week or two when we got there. The water in the long narrow and shallow channel was quite a bit warmer and the pike were all over the place in the channel. Some days we caught pike on every second or third cast of just about every variety of spoon, bright ones, dark ones, small ones, big ones. Some of the guys were fly fishing for pike and they had pretty good success as well casting big streamers near the reeds.

Fishing Lake - Saskatchewan
Comments: We tried trolling and jigging with minnows and jigs with plastic worms but nothing was biting but the weeds, so we stopped at the edge of a weed bed about 50 feet from shore and started casting spoons. The red and white spoon my fishing buddy tried was useless but the yellow and red 5 of diamonds was the lure of the day. The biggest northern pike we caught was about 36" and the rest between 24" and 30". We also caught a few nice walleye on spoons in the same area.

Location:
Shellbrook - Saskatchewan
Comments: Delaronde lake has some of the best fishing within 5 hours of Regina. If your looking for a great getaway with many fishing possibilities, Delaronde is where you want to be. Wayne and his family at the Delarond Resort will be happy to show you the lake and they have great fishing and hunting packages available for bargain basement prices. Get the feel of a true North Saskatchewan fishing experience, but only drive half way. Pike ranging from 10 - 30lbs are not uncommon. As well the Walleyes are usually 5-12 lbs with the occasional 14 - 15 pounder. The lake offers many great places to beach for shore lunch, as well is a great environment for family fun. Second to none. Next time you want to get out for some great fishing on this wonderful Saskatchewan lake, check out Delaronde resort just a couple kms north of Shellbrook
